About the Authors

Gerald J. Driessen, Ph.D.

Gerry was born in St. Charles, IL. He attended Marmion Military High School in Aurora, IL, Harvard University in Boston, MA and Loyola University in Chicago, IL where he graduated with a Doctorate in Psychology.

He worked in the fields of brain research at the University of Illinois and safety research for the National Safety Council in Chicago, IL. He did safety management at the Naval Exchange Service Center in San Diego, CA as well as the General Services Administration in San Francisco, CA. 

He’s been a teacher, lab director, researcher, editor, solar energy advocate, poet, guitar player, singer, songwriter, high school football MVP, hat collector, and is an avid information enthusiast. 

During his travels he’s been to the top of three landmarks you’ll learn about: The Eiffel Tower, one of the towers of The Golden Gate Bridge and the crown of The Statue of Liberty.

He is happily retired and resides in San Diego, CA.

Thalia Driessen

Thalia was born in Chicago, IL, and was named after one of the nine muses of Greek mythology. Thalia’s namesake is the muse of comedy.

She and her family moved to California just before she began middle school. She gained early literary experience as the editor of her high school newspaper. Her first job was at a costume company which fueled her interest in fashion and history. 

She graduated from San Diego State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree and did post-graduate studies in web design and development. She went on to work for several companies specializing in software for fundraising. She produced a nationally distributed event magazine, developed interfaces for proprietary applications, and designed websites for the world’s leading nonprofits.

Her interests include fine art, fashion, music, dance, and travel. She cares deeply about animal conservation, especially for elephants in the wild. 

She’s lived in New York City and currently calls San Diego, CA home.
